In 1876, the French engineer Charles Tellier transported a meat shipment from Buenos Aires to Rouen. aboard his own steamer « le Frigorifique ».

The railroad, the steamer and refrigeration, revolutionized transportation, contributed to an internationalization in food economy and to a regional specialization in food production.
